What is a Charter School?

A charter School is a tuition-free school that provides choice in education. Recognizing a need for enhanced learning options Charter schools have been operating in Alberta since 1994. Charter Schools, tuition-free public schools, are operated by non-profit organizations, employ Alberta certified teachers, are accessible to all students, have no religious affiliation and offer curriculum approved by Alberta education.

Charter schools Offer: innovative and enhanced methods of instruction, opportunities for meaningful parental involvement, a safe, caring and responsive environment, active and effective leadership, certified and dedicated staff, dedication to excellence.

Andrew Rural Academy is a public charter school for grades K-12 that offers educational programs with a special focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) learning as applied to rural life. With STEM we are infusing Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Aeronautics (Drones), and Trades into hands on programs. With STEM educational programs leading edge topics and collaboration with post-secondary institutions, industry partners, and government we will help develop students’ skills as identified by post-secondary institutions, industries and government, to ensure our curriculum is up-to-date and advancing to meet future needs. Thus creating a pathway for our students to succeed in various fields of study in post-secondary institutions.
